Top 5 Tuesday: Summer Skincare

Summer is finally heating up here in California!  It feels like we’ve had an extended winter – cloudy weather in the low 60s and only a few intermittent warm days until basically a week or two ago. But the warm weather seems here to stay now!

Every season brings a change in makeup and skincare choices- even just switching out one or two products makes a major difference in my routine and my skin.

I’ve been lucky not to have had problems with acne, even as a teenager. But I’ve always had a lot of discoloration in my cheeks and  occasional milia under my eyes that created a lot of texture- especially during the hot summer months. I picked up this cleanser from Farmacy a few weeks ago and I am obsessed with it! The gel isn’t super thick and it lathers really well- you don’t need to use a ton. It breaks down all my makeup easily and has cleared up the discoloration and bumps quickly.

I was also on the hunt for a new moisturizer, but I’m very specific about what I like when it comes to this. It can’t be too thick and needs to soak in pretty quickly. This one from Glow Recipe is the best- not only because it looks so cute in my skincare shelf, but because it has the perfect texture. It’s a thin gel that absorbs quickly without feeling sticky.  A little bit goes a long way and it smells amaaaaazing! I’m interested in trying the sleeping mask, so if you’ve used it, let me know!

I snagged this Boscia Peel Gel to use as a gentle daily exfoliant. I usually use the Farmacy cleanser at night to strip off all my makeup and then use this peel gel in the morning to get rid of any dead skin and prime my face for moisturizer. It’s best used on dry skin and has a really interesting, jelly-like texture. It leaves your face feeling nice and smooth!

When I want to exfoliate with a little more vigor, I use the NeoGen Gauze Peeling Wine Pads. They smell like straight up grape juice and really do a good job of eliminating impurities. They have a little sleeve you can slide your hand into for a steady scrub and two different sides of texture- one rougher to help scrub off unwanted dead skin and the other smoother to cleanse any leftover makeup or cream.

I forgot to photograph the final pick, but it’s an easy one that I hang onto year round! I use the Tinkle razors about once a week to shave my face. It’s made a huge difference in the way my makeup looks and my face feels so much softer after.
