Healthy Hair Tips

During this time of the year, it’s so important to take care of your hair. Cold weather can wreak havoc on your hair!  I’m the first to admit that when it comes to hair care, I’m not at all an expert.

^ love this!

But recently, I’ve come to take the health of my hair much more seriously and it’s made a huge difference. It’s so important to take care of your hair, especially when the weather changes. Cold air sucks the moisture right out of your hair, leaving it dry and split. Not to mention that this also dulls your hair and makes it appear lifeless. And we do not want that!

Even if you’re a lazy hair care gal like me, these three simple tips can help you avoid hair disasters this season!

ONE. Get it trimmed- regularly!

This is where I struggled. Honestly, I hadn’t gotten so much as a trim in almost 2 years until right before Thanksgiving weekend. But I looked at my hair- the hair that I was trying so hard to grow out- and realized just how dead and lifeless it was. I went to the chopping board and had a solid 2-3 inches cut. And it’s been amazing- my hair feels alive again! Try to get a clean chop (or at least a trim) of all your dead, split ends before the cold really starts to set in. It helps keep your hair healthy by ultimately reducing split ends and can help your hair grow faster!

TWO. Deep Condition Frequently
I cannot stress this one enough! My mom always ingrained the importance of semi-regular deep conditioning, especially since my hair was so thick and prone to drying out. Deep conditioning- especially after a cut- will make a day and night difference in your hair! It super hydrates from root to tip and locks all that moisture in, which your hair will desperately need to fight cold, windy air. My classic go to is this product – I put it in my hair, throw on a shower cap to keep it all in and after rinsing I’m left with soft, healthy and shiny hair. LUSH also has a new hot oil treatment that is great if you have curly hair!

THREE. Make Use of Hair Oils
I love love love using hair oils for my hair, especially now that it’s healthier. Argan oil (aptly nicknamed “liquid gold”) is amaziiiiing for your hair! It tames frizz, boosts shine, and is loaded with Vitamin E, which helps promote hair growth. AND it doesn’t leave your hair greasy, which I love. My fave is this spray that distributes the perfect amount. Also loving this bottle by CHI. Throw some in after a shower before you head out!

What is your favorite cold weather hair product/tip?
